L. George Hannye , a SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) volunteer in Tennessee, admits he had "qualms, misgivings, fears, uncertainties, limited expectations -- you name it" when he started counseling inmates on starting a small business upon release.  However, almost from the start, he knew it was the right thing to do.  Hannye's goal was to find ways to reduce the number of ex-felons returning to prison.  The key, he believes, to reducing recidivism lies in helping inmates envision and plan for a future that offers them hope of success.  Although a pragmatist at heart, Hannye has learned through his work with inmates that "hope is a tremendous gift to give and a life-altering present to receive."

This book chronicles his approach and experiences in helping inmates change the direction of their lives.
